Aches And Weight Gain
Dear
James,
LATELY
I HAVE STOMACH ACHES, COULD IT BE FROM EATING ABOUT 6-8 WHOLE
EGGS A DAY?
YOU SEE I LIVE IN ISRAEL AND THE ONLY PROTEIN POWDER I CAN
BUY IS OPTIMUM ON-INSTANTIZED WHEY PROTEIN.
IT CONTAINS ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR,LECITHIN AND ACESULFAME POTASSIUM.
DO YOU THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH MY STOMACH ACHES?
USUALLY I CONSUME ONE SCOOP IN THE MORNING,FIRST THING I WAKE
UP AND ANOTHER SCOOP RIGHT AFTER WORKOUT. I KNOW YOU DONT
LIKE SUPPLEMENTS MUCH, BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK I SHOULD DO?
TAKE JUST AFTER WORKOUT OR DONT USE WHEY AT ALL, AND IF NOT
WHAT SHOULD I DO IN ORDER TO MAXIMIZE MY GAINS. IN THE LAST
YEAR AND HALF I WENT FROM 72 KG TO 82 KG, I WANT TO GET EVEN
BIGGER, I TRY TO EAT AT LEAST 6-7 MEALS A DAY BUT SOMETIMES
IT'S HARD SO I HAVE TO USE THE WHEY POWDER.
AS ALWAYS YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND ADVICES WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED.
Congratulations
on your tremendous weight gain! I do hate the artificial sweeteners
and additives in the product you list. They are famous for
many side effects but this does not mean they are the cause
fo your problem. I dont think the quantity of eggs would be
responsible if the eggs are fresh. the amount of eggs you
state is not high. Many bodybuilders especially in the seventies
sixties and fifties used to eat a dozen eggs three or four
times per day!!!
I would suggest you follow an elimination diet to see what
is the cause of your stomach aches. This way you can see for
yourself what your problem is. An elimination diet means to
methodically eliminate one food at a time from your diet until
you pin point the cause of your problem. To do this you require
to follow a strict diet of the same foods and portions ( which
you should be doing regardless ) and then keep everything
the same but the food you eliminate. Try eliminating the protein
powder / weight gain supplement and see if your gut aches
go away. If not eliminate other foods that your instinct is
telling you may not be favourable to your body.
Now if the protein
supplement is the problem then you will have no other choice
but to substitute a natural solid protein source. For weight
gain shakes I have had great results from the following protein
base combination:
Skim milk powder
egg whites
whole milk
as a protein mixture
for your weight gain shake. I add fruit like frozen strawberries.
kiwis, banana, frozen blueberries rasberries etc.
